About the Book
—Mommy, my fish is going to die!
Come quickly! Leon is going to die of boredom!
Arthur’s mommy looks at him.
She closes her eyes,
she opens her eyes ...
Then she smiles:
—Hurry, give him a poem!
And she leaves for her tuba lesson.
But what is a poem? This is what Arthur must figure out to begin with. And then, will he be able to find one in time? He asks the baker, his grandparents, old Mahmoud, even his canary, but each of them has something different to say, and no one seems able to explain just what a poem is. Clearly “poem” is a mysterious word, but it is a mystery that needs to be understood if Arthur is to save Leon’s life.
Playful, funny, lyrical and yes ... poetic, This Is A Poem That Heals Fish is a wonderful read-aloud book for children to share, discuss and by inspired by. It not only will make them think about poems and make them want to attempt one, but it will lead them quite naturally to look at their world in a new way.
Awards and Reviews
“This Is A Poem That Heals Fish is a rare little miracle of a book. It manages the brilliant trick of explaining the abstract concept of a “poem” to a child through the simple but effective art of demonstration. The book itself is a perfectly constructed poem.” – www.posterband.com
“Exuding magic and unbridled creativity on every page, this is a book with the potential to heal more than just fish.” – Publishers Weekly
“An enchantingly abstract invitation to ponder poetry.” – Kirkus Reviews
“A great book for any age! At this very moment, it feels like one of the best books I’ve ever bought!” – A Year of Reading
