About the Book
Whether a child is in a city park, a backyard or a country field, there are birds to be observed at close range. This book is an excellent choice for helping them to get closer to birds and their natural environment, which in turn will help them to become more knowledgeable about and sensitive to their surroundings. The aim of this Field Guide, then, is to bring the reader closer to the marvelous world of birds by offering guidelines for the best possible observation.
Beginning with a consideration of what can be learned from simple observation, the book moves into an in-depth look at birds in terms of skeleton, internal organs, reproduction, diet, feathers, flight, migration, navigation and environment. Moreover, this Field Guide helps us to contextualize the life of birds in the modern world by illuminating the different dangers with which birds are continually confronted. Pesticides, traps, environmental pollution, the destruction of habitat, poaching, illegal traffic in eggs and electrical cables are some of the reasons why certain species of birds are in danger of extinction. Fortunately, it is not too late to make changes and there is still time to save many bird species, as many groups and organizations are working to do.
