Vittoria Facchini was born in Molfetta, Italy. She still lives and works in Molfetta, in a studio flooded with light. From her window, she looks out on an old, beloved shipyard. Vittoria began her life as an illustrator in the Italian food industry—specifically for wine producers. Eventually, she transitioned into illustrating for organizations dealing with issues like immigration, families of children with rare genetic conditions, autism, and disability. In 1997, almost by chance (though she did come to it as a committed, active feminist), Vittoria began to write and illustrate picture books having to do with gender identity.
